What should I check within the four walls of a pre-school before admitting my child?

Once you have zeroed-in on the pre-school, on the basis of the research you have undertaken, it is suggested that you take a walk inside and get a feel of the place. Experiencing the pre-school personally is the most important part of the research. You can take your first opinion after:

• You have seen the curriculum and books

• You have seen first-hand the happy faces of the children in the pre-school

• You are satisfied by the responses given by the counselor about your child’s outcomes

• Your child looks at ease in the environment and wants to explore more. He/she appears to adjust well and seems to develop a liking for the pre-school

How do I know which is the right pre-school for my child?

Now that we know it is important for our little one to start going to pre-school, it helps to do some research to find the right one. Before you begin the search, identify your priorities, evaluate the probabilities and then make the right choice. For example:

• Are you looking for a pre-school near your work place, or the one closer to home?

• Are you looking for a day-care center or only a pre-school?

Once you are clear about what you need, it is often a good idea to refer to your friends or to people you know. This helps to a great extent in forming a basic opinion about a pre-school. Their recommendation would further help you narrow down on your choice for the right pre-school.  Here are some signs that differentiate a good pre-school:

How will the school help me in developing right habits in children?

Pre-school, after one’s own home, is the first place where one is exposed to the concepts of good habits and life skills. The facilitators at 'Little Millennium™' try their best to ensure that the child gets toilet trained, gets right food habits, and overcomes separation anxiety, the fear of strangers, putting ones things away after play, etc. In the flow of learning, before the child starts his academic journey, the facilitator equips the child with the right habits through regular practice and play. The child does not realize as the right habits subconsciously become a part of his lifestyle. The tactful guidance and motivation of the facilitator and the peer group interaction play an important role in developing these habits. And soon, parents can see a positive and evident transformation.

What is the difference between a Teacher and a Facilitator? Why do we have facilitators at 'Little Millennium?

The role of the teacher is to impart knowledge through instructions. The role of the facilitator is to create a desirable environment is which the learner can enhance and acquire knowledge.

Pre-schoolers need a stimulating environment to grow naturally and express effectively. Thus, instead of teachers who instruct, we have facilitators to enable healthy learning. The facilitators are expected to psychologically gauge each child to understand him/her and provide necessary guidance.  The facilitators create an environment in which children can learn naturally, acquire knowledge or gain information without any extrinsic pressure. In the 'Little Millennium™' environment we aim to understand each learner. Afacilitator, as per the terminology, is focused on the learner and on creating a desirable environment in which the learner can enhance his personality, acquire knowledge and himself find ways to problem solving.

How is your curriculum different from other schools?

The curriculum at 'Little Millennium™' has been designed after studying various schools of thoughts - Play Way Method, Project Method, Montessori Method, Theme-based Model, and Multiple Intelligence Method. Having taken the strengths of each school of thought, we have developed our own methodology called the 'Eclectic Approach™'.  While it provides the child with benefits of the various methods of learning, it does not rely on any single school of thought, eliminating the disadvantages of such dependency. With regular training of the facilitators along with the strong evaluation system to ensure quality standards, 'Little Millennium™' marches forward reaching milestones and adding feathers to its cap.

How does 'Little Millennium™' maintain consistent quality standards?

'Little Millennium exercises detailed due diligence in the selection of franchisees and in the recruitment of the key teaching staff at every school. All centres are provided with detailed lesson plans and operations manuals. In addition, all facilitators/teaching staff are, without exception, put through a strenuous training program. Further, our academic coordinators do visit all the centres regularly and audit the quality standards of the centres.

What were the key objectives and motivation for developing 'Little Millennium?

The key objectives and motivation behind developing 'Little Millennium™'was to provide a high-quality alternative, where the learning outcomes of children are of paramount importance, to the run-of-the-mill, poorly set-up and organized play school down the road. We were of the firm belief that an organization that dedicated itself to the welfare of the child has a huge role to play in the Indian education sector. Our experience over the past few years with Little Millennium only reinforces that belief. 

What kinds of gaps exist in the prevailing pattern of pre-schooling in India?

While the number of preschools in urban India is growing rapidly, sadly the same cannot be said of their quality. Most preschool owners have neither the inclination nor the training and background to add value to the precious life and future of a child. Parents’ expectations are also low; some parents are merely looking at a preschool as a play school where a child can spend a few hours each day. Consequently, not much attention is paid to the methodology of teaching, the quality of books or the selection and training of teachers.

How does putting a child into Preschool at the appropriate age help in the future development of the child?
